Streets don’t just move vehicles; they are public space where we all walk, work, live and play. I know many of us found during the lockdowns last year how social and safe the streets around our neighbourhood could be with a calmer traffic environment. Now Auckland Transport are giving us the opportunity to have our say in the design of these environments.
The Connected Communities programme is aimed at getting greater usage out of some of our main thoroughfares through optimisation of public transport and improvements in cycling and walking infrastructure. It is also aimed at making these thoroughfares safer and more pleasant for people and provide improved social, environmental, cultural and economic outcomes for local neighbourhood centres.
The New North Road corridor running through Eden Terrace, Kingsland and Morningside is out for consultation now. You can view it here.
