Ministry of Education: Latest COVID-19 Update 2 April

Supporting learning from home

What we’re doing
We’re working with a range of providers – including ICT, education and PLD providers – on a package of supports and resources to supplement your material, so learning can continue at home.

The package will include:

  • more online resources available through our websites
  • increasing the number of students who have access to devices, and supporting where we can with hard copy materials for different year levels, which has been pulled together by the Ministry. As the devices used by students at home won’t be protected by their school’s web content filter while undertaking distance learning, N4L and Netsafe are working on some options to protect students online and we will advise further as soon as this information is available
  • making provision for a range of subject-specific hard-copy resources for delivery to students to support schools in delivering distance learning to students in Years 11-13
  • PLD to support teachers and leaders to work remotely with their students.

We are also working with the telecommunications industry to identify the location of student households without connectivity and to develop solutions for students in these homes.

In addition, we are exploring at pace the possibility of educational material being broadcast on TV.
