Sunsmart & Sunhats

The school requests that children wear sunsmart protective clothing, sunhats and sunscreen during Terms 1 and 4, September to April. Children not wearing sunhats are directed to play in the shade by the library.

We have a few old bucket 'Newton Central Logo' hats left for sale for $20.

New 'Newton Central Logo' hats are available, check out our fundraising page and posters on display around the school advertising them.

Safekids New Zealand - helping to reduce the high rate of unintentional injury to children.

School Holiday Programmes

Youthtown- Reasonably priced, full day (8am - 6pm) options with both organised day trips from, and in-house programmes based in, Nelson Street. Be warned you have to book well in advance to get a place as those children that go to Youthtown for after-school care get priority placement.

Parnell Trust - Full day programmes.

YMCA - full day activities, day camps and overnight camps at several locations with reasonable prices.

Kidactive - Full day programmes.

Studio One Toi Tū  - Based at the top of Ponsonby Rd near K'Rd, Studio One has art workshops (usually half day) at various dates through the school holidays.

Auckland City Art Gallery -  2 hour workshops that run daily during the holidays.

Bubble Dome - Multi-day programmes based mainly at Auckland Boys Grammar focussed on science, technology and arts projects

Enchanted Learning - a collection of excellent links, mainly suitable for junior learners

Bubble Dome - an outstanding New Zealand based website that exercises children's creativity and imagination. Great for developing thinking skills. This site has many interactive features

FunBrain Grammar - provides games to help children develop literacy and numeracy skills

māori.org.nz - an excellent site for resources, for example waiata and clipart

Yahoo! Kids - provides a filtered child-friendly search engine. This is the main search engine we use at Newton Central School.
