Auraki / English Medium Pathway

English Medium School (Auraki) Years 0 – 6

Āhuru Mōwai Years  0 – 1

He kāinga haumaru,

He āhuru mōwai.

A safe home,

a sheltered

haven for me.

In Āhuru Mōwai we provide a nurturing safe haven for tamariki to grow into resilient, caring, independent learners.

Āhuru Mōwai offers a developmentally appropriate learning environment based on tamariki’s needs and interests, with a focus on wellbeing and a healthy transition into primary school.

  • We explore the New Zealand Curriculum through developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • We develop the Key Competencies (link) throughout our programmes.

Whānau Nohinohi Years 2 – 4

The teachers in our whānau plan units of study together and are moving into an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning.

Every child is expected to read for at least 20 minutes each day at home. We encourage the use of the free and effective website XtraMath to support our students in the learning of their maths basic facts.

Other homework is set by each teacher to support learning in class related to specific units of inquiry and something that you can help with at home.

Whānau Marama

Our English Medium Senior School (Years 4 – 6)

There are 4 classes in our senior English Medium whānau, covering Years 4 – 6.

As children transition into Whānau Marama we begin to focus on students taking greater responsibility for their own learning, ultimately becoming self-directed learners. There are greater opportunities for students to be involved in inquiry projects connected to real world challenges.

We continue to explore biculturalism and multiculturalism in a New Zealand context through our Critical Histories units of learning.
