Help Us Raise Funds
Here are some of the ways you can help us to raise funds for the school. Please check your newsletters for details of our regular fundraising efforts.
Recycle Paper and Cardboard
Please bring your old paper and cardboard into school and help us earn money for library books! Full Circle is a NZ based recycling company with a special programme for schools. They pay us every month for all the paper and cardboard we can collect for them from our homes and the school. They provide jobs for NZ workers in Penrose and Tokoroa who recycle it all into new packaging.
We now have a green Full Circle recycle bin located in the Waima Street carpark, near the bees. Please help us if you can by dropping off all your used paper and cardboard (except the tetrapack kind that makes juice containers which go in the fridge) into our bin. The bin is cleared weekly at present. Every dollar earned will go to new books for our library!
Fia Fia Day
Fia Fia day is Newton Central's major public fundraising event each year. It is a gala day involving stalls, activities and entertainment, open to the whole community and usually held towards the end of the first term each year. Parents are asked to contribute items to sell, to help with the running of things, and to come along on the day with friends and family to support the school. Contact Sheila Buchanan, Assistant Principal for more information.
Fia Fia Day 2012
Currently planned for Saturday 31st March 2012.

Yummy Stickers
Healthy eating, healthy living! Crunch your way through "Yummy" Apples, collect the 'cut out' labels from the 2kg bags of apples or individual "Yummy" apple stickers (each 2kg bag 'cut out' is worth 10 stickers!). Purchase Yummy Apples at your nearest New World, Pak'n Save and participating Four Square stores. Collect the "Yummy" apple 'cut out' labels from 2kg bags and individual "Yummy" stickers for our school's share of the $200,000 sports gear prize pool. The more you collect, the more sports gear we get.
McCain Veggie Patches
Our school signed up for the School Veggie Patches programme that began in April for primary schools throughout New Zealand. This programme encourages schools to build their own veggie patches, grow their own vegetables and for the students to learn how to grow and care for vegetables. How can you help?
By buying McCain vegetable products and bringing the barcodes in to the Room 13. Every barcode from a McCain Vegetable product that is given to the school gets points for the school. Schools will then be able to redeem their points for a range of gardening tools, seeds and equipment such as wheelbarrows, water tanks and compost bins to help with our school garden patch. More information here.
Slingshot and CallPlus 'Better Schools' Programme
We are now part of this wonderful programme whereby Slingshot customers can choose to have a percentage of their monthly bill donated to the school. Each month, Slingshot will send us a cheque to use as we see fit. How big that cheque is depends on you! If you’d like this easy way to contribute please go to www.slingshot.co.nz/schools or call 0800 89 2000 and speak to one of their friendly customer helpers.
