Fono Pasifika
Kia ora, Kia orana, Maloe lelei, Talofa lava, Fakalofa lahi atu, Bula Vinaka
Let me introduce you to our Fanau Pasifika class. We are a close-knit group of Pasifika children from years 1 to 4.
Some of the special features of our Fanau Pasifika classroom are:
- It incorporates Pasifika fanau values
- A range of age groups means older children have lots of opportunities to help and interact with younger children
- Younger children work alongside older peer role models
- We use Pacific Island language reading resources
- Pasifika songs, dances, arts, and crafts are an important part of our learning
- Daily prayer is part of our programme, with karakia being learnt in Māori, Samoan, Niuean and Tongan
- We have an open door policy for parents, and encourage parental involvement. Our parents are involved in the whole school
- We use Pacific languages in our lessons and activities
We welcome new children and families to come and learn in our vibrant, fun, and creative Pasifika classroom.
We are starting to put some of our reo on the site, starting with days of the week.

There is also a section for our Pasifika Parents Participating in Education, which includes the following documents for download.
- Fono Mission - PDF - 113KB
- Fono Minutes May 2009 - PDF - 67KB
The Fanau Pasifika was opened in 2000. The teaching is the same as in mainstream, although there is a focus on identity. It is important for the children to know about their backgrounds.
The parents and children are an important resource. A good relationship and strong communication is fostered. We have sleepovers during the summer terms, as a way to have a shared time with parents and fanau. It is also a time for guests to come and talk.
